2025 PFL Africa 2 Pre-Fight Notebook

The Professional Fighters League will plant its flag in Johannesburg with 2025 PFL Africa 2 this Saturday at Big Top Arena, where tournaments in the featherweight and welterweight divisions are set to get underway. Ahead of the event, several fighters spoke with Sherdog.com at the PFL Africa media day. A sampling from some of the top competitors on the card:

Patrick Ocheme on realizing his dream with the PFL: “I don’t know if you would believe me if I said I’ve always wanted to fight in the PFL dating back to three years ago. I just love the way they do everything. Their fight shorts, the entrances, the lights, the crowd and the fighters—everything they do is top notch. I was praying to God that I would get a chance in this promotion. People ask me why I don’t want to go to the UFC; it’s because my dream is to fight in the PFL. So when I got the opportunity to compete in the PFL Africa tournament, everything changed. I didn’t know I would ever headline, but I’m really honored to be in this spot.”

Shido Boris Esperanca on the PFL’s impact in Africa: “It’s the first time that one big promotion looks at Africa and sees the talent. It’s the first time that something as big as the PFL looks at us all in Africa. It’s a big gate being opened for us. We deserve this. We deserved this a long time ago, but now that it’s happening, it’s not a problem to wait. This is the beginning of something big, because a lot of us from Africa have to leave to find opportunities. Now, we can do something here, being in the big leagues in Africa.”

Wasiu Adeshina on Francis Ngannou’s impact with PFL Africa: “It gives all of us, especially me, it gives me a lot of confidence in myself that there’s a chance out there. It gives me hope that things can be done here. You just have to have a little bit of belief [and] hard work, and the spotlight should be there.”

Ayinda Octave on his plans through PFL Africa: “First and foremost, I’m going to remain undefeated throughout this journey. My plan in PFL Africa is to go and get the belt in this tournament, and then I am going to go to the global stage. I want to become the PFL tournament champion, then the world champion. From Africa to the world championship.”

Abderrahman Errachidy on facing a South African opponent in South Africa: “I have a surprise for [Elbert Lukas Steyn]. I have a surprise for the crowd, and I have a surprise for all of South Africa.”
